Mansfield Youth Radio receives support in Community Impact funding round
11 August 2023
Last night at Mansfield Golf Club, Radio Mansfield was honoured to be among the recipients of a Community Impact Grant from the Community Bank Mansfield and District.
The grant will fund an exciting new initiative at Mansfield's community radio station – Mansfield Youth Radio.
The aim of Mansfield Youth Radio is to empower local young people to learn new skills and develop the confidence to deliver youth focussed radio programmes.
Radio Mansfield is partnering with local primary and secondary Schools and youth-based organisations, to provide an opportunity for young people to participate in the program.
Young people from Mansfield Secondary College, Mansfield Primary School, Saint Mary’s Primary School, Mansfield Steiner School and local youth organisations will be trained and mentored to develop and deliver weekly radio shows that will speak to a young audience.
The initiative is being championed by Radio Mansfield President Peter Brown.
"We're very excited to have received this support from Community Bank Mansfield and District. Their support validates our believe that programs like this are vital to the health and wellbeing of young people and of our community," he said. "Studies have shown the importance of volunteering for individual wellbeing. And just as importantly, radio provides an amazing opportunity to learn new skills, create meaningful content and build confidence."
If you are a young person or the guardian of a young person in Mansfield and district who would like to be involved in Mansfield Youth Radio, please talk to your teacher about how to get involved.
